Coco Crisp

Coco Crisp's House - Rancho Mirage, California.

Covelli Loyce Crisp, known as "Coco," was born in Los Angeles and attended Los Angeles Pierce College. His sister gave him the nickname due to his resemblance to a character on the Cocoa Krispies cereal box. Selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1999 M.L.B. Draft, Crisp earned the title of Cardinals' 2001 'Minor League Player of the Year.' Renowned for his fielding and baserunning skills, he played for the Cleveland Indians before transitioning to left field in 2005. Traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2006, he received a three-year, $15.5 million contract extension. However, an index finger injury temporarily sidelined him, affecting his batting position.

In the memorable 2006 season, Crisp made a notable catch against the New York Mets on June 29. He missed the 2007 World Series after an incident at Fenway Park. Crisp then signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Oakland Athletics, achieving an A.L. record of 49 stolen bases. Re-signing with Oakland for $14 million in 2012, Crisp continued until 2016. After becoming a free agent in 2017, he became the head coach of the Shadow Hills High School baseball team. In 2021, he managed the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in the inaugural M.L.B. Draft League season. On January 17, 2022, he joined the Washington Nationals' player development staff.
